Nana has shown consistency - JAK
Former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor has hailed the unanimous endorsement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a great day in the history of the New Patriotic Party, as he strongly believes that Dr Bawumia is a good choice for Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure victory in the December polls.
The former President made this known at yesterday’s National Council where Nana Akufo-Addo presented the name of Dr Bawumia as his choice for Vice Presidential slot.
Addressing members of the council after Nana Addo’s announcement, President Kufuor said “today is a great day because we have completed our ticket for the 2012 election. It is a beautiful day because Nana has showed consistency and I believe the choice of Bawumia is indeed a good choice.”
According to President Kufuor, Nana Addo’s consistency in keeping faith with Dr Bawumia was an indication that Nana Addo knew what he was truly about and will handle the affairs of the nation extremely well when handed the mandate in December 2012.
President Kufuor stressed that the main focus of the party, however, should be ensuring that party won the December polls, adding that “it is obvious today that the Ghanaian people will vote massively for him [Nana Akufo-Addo]”.
In touting the credentials of the Dr Bawumia, and literally doing the work of Nana Akufo-Addo for him regarding why he selected Dr Bawumia, President Kufuor recalled the role played by Role Bawumia played to make sure that the redenomination of the cedi was a success.
President Kufuor explained that the successful redenomination of the cedi was been hailed globally and through this process, the cedi was considerably strengthened and Ghanaians found renewed confidence in their currency.
The role played by Dr Bawumia, as representative of the African Development Bank to Zimbabwe, responsible for AfDB relations with Zimbabwe, Research-Based Technical Advice to Government, Coordination with Donor Community, Oversight Responsibility for Administration of the Zimbabwe Multi-Donor Trust Fund, received mention by President Kufuor.
“Dr Bawumia is a respected personality across the African continent”, President Kufuor summed.
Former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, stated that he was very confident of the fact that “Change is coming”.
According to him the process of selecting a running mate four years ago was not smooth, but “today it is by popular acclamation. It shows that the party leadership will go into the elections with a much more united front than in 2008.”
