Flagstaff House Is Perfect Place To Bury Mills – Ato Dadzie
01 August 2012
The spokesperson for the Funeral Planning Committee of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, Nana Ato Dadzie, has said that there is enough space at the Flagstaff House to serve as a burial ground for the late President.
This he said will not affect the sensitivity of the President who intends to operate from the premises.
The committee has settled on the Flagstaff House as the final resting place for the late President; a decision which has faced severe criticism from members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and some family members of Professor Mills.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Nana Ato Dadzie maintained that the Jubilee House is ideal location for the burial taking into consideration the event at hand.
Explaining the rationale behind the committee’s decision, he said, “a portion of that land has President Nkrumah’s residence, there is a portion which used to have a whole zoo and President [John] Kufuor rightly thought that we needed an edifice so he put up a house, popularly known as Jubilee house and it’s only one facility on a portion of that land so there is a lot of space out there where it could be developed.”
He added that the decision to use a portion of the Flagstaff House was influenced by so many factors.
“For instance, the international guests who are coming, immediately there must be a holding place for them before the burial and when they are done, there must be a place to refresh them and the movement of cars and the millions of people and so we have to take so many things into account,” the former Chief of Staff pointed out.
