The Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) has postponed their scheduled ‘Mieku’- to wit ‘we are dying’ demonstration due to an injunction imposed on them.

The demonstration which was supposed to be held today, Tuesday 26th March has been rescheduled to April.

A statement issued and signed by the Public Affairs Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Command, DSP Freeman Tettey, indicated that the command sought for the injunction from the court following failure of AFAG to postpone the demonstration in the face of what was happening in Kumasi.

As a result An Accra Circuit court issued an injunction restraining AFAG from embarking on their demonstration.

Speaking on Peace FM, Dr Nana Afriyie Ayew, the President of the pressure group confirmed that they have received the injunction and indicated that the demonstration have been postponed to April 16th.

According to him, ‘the police claim to have sent reinforcement to Kumasi. As a result they are short of personnel in Accra’.

The pressure group were to embark on the ‘Mieku’ demonstration to express the suffering of Ghanaians in what they describe as the economic mismanagement of the Mahama-led administration.

“It is true the demonstration has been postponed. It will not come on because of the insurgence in Kumasi. According to them, they have sent a lot of their personnel to assist the police men in Kumasi following the act of the armed robbers.

As a result and per the number of people we are expecting for the demonstration, they can’t provide the required police officers needed; hence the need for a postponement. We have agreed that by 16th April, they would have finished with their duties in Accra and then we can go on with our demonstration…No matter what April 16th will come and we will surely have our demonstration” he stated.
