According to Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the presidential hopefuls ‘political blunder’ has resulted in a waste of money and resources the party could have used to prosecute its 2016 electioneering campaign.

Sir John as he is popular called made the comment shortly after Nana Akufo-Addo was declared winner of the flagbearership election.

The over 140,000 delegates overwhelmingly endorsed him as the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2016 polls with 117,413 representing a record 94.35 percent of total votes cast. Mr. Kyerematen on the other hand managed to poll only 5,908 votes representing only 4.75%.

Based this performance, Sir John in an exclusive interview with Adom TV said the former Trade Minister should be made to refund the monies lost to the party.

He explained that Mr. Kyerematen after his poor showing after the Special Electoral College voted to wean down the of aspirants from seven to five should have withdrawn from the race honourably.

“I knew Alan decision to contest would be an exercise in futility so he should have withdrawn from the race to protect his dignity and clout in the party” he added.

The former General Secretary described as unfortunate how Mr. Kyerematen failed to heed to advice in the name of exercising his democratic right.

This notwithstanding, Sir John said the former Trade Minister would be given a role to play in Akufo-Addo’s campaign team.
