THE LARGEST opposition political grouping in the country, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will commence the distribution of free school uniforms to students next week.

details

The nationwide social intervention programme would see the party distributing three million school uniforms to needy students.

The distribution is the NPP’s own way of assisting the beneficiary pupils after the NDC government’s failure to pursue that policy to help the needy learners.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, said all was set for the distribution to start.

He told Kapital Radio – a Kumasi-based radio station – that the NDC administration was not committed to the school uniform distribution project.

The NPP capo, affectionately called Chairman Wontumi, said the party had therefore decided to intervene to reduce the burden on the parents of the needy students.

Mr. Anwi Boasiako said the NPP would solicit for funds from its members and other well-wishers to sustain the project.

He stated that the party would not involve any institution like the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the distribution process.

Wontumi noted that the party’s members would be visiting every part of the country, identify the needy students and help them accordingly.

Kumasi Demo

The NPP chairman expressed appreciation about the success of the ‘Ya Ye Den Demonstration’ in Kumasi which lambasted the government on Tuesday.

He was of the view that the colossal crowd that thronged the streets to demonstrate clearly showed that there is real hardship in the country.

Chairman Wontumi commended both the organizers and the partic- ipants for behaving well and making the event peaceful.

He announced that the NPP would replicate the protest in other parts of the country until the government sits up to deliver.
