Eastern Region to get new regional hospital and university
The Eastern Region is to benefit from a new regional hospital in addition to a public university if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the December elections.
This is contained in the 2012 manifesto of the party which was launched in the Volta Region last Thursday.
President John Dramani Mahama disclosed this when he addressed this year’s Annual Boysco Convention of the Saviour Church of Ghana at Osiem and this year’s Odwira durbar of chiefs and people of Aburi at the Aburi Botanical Gardens on Saturday.
The three-days Boysco or Youth Convention of the church is being attended by 5,200 delegates from the 52 circuits of the Church throughout the country.
President Mahama explained that due to the closeness of the Eastern Region to Accra, many development planers ignore vital development projects due the Region.
He said under the NDC Government’s Better Agenda programme, all the second cycle institutions in the Eastern Region had benefitted from a lot of school projects within the four years that the party had been in power.
He said soon, the Ministry of Trade would set a date for the commissioning of the new Aburi Craft Village to grant the necessary environment for the sale of crafts in Aburi and also to help promote tourism in the area.
President Mahama denied that government had sold the Aburi Botanical Gardens and explained that the Government had set up a committee on which the traditional authorities in Aburi had a representation to identify a strategic private investor who would partner government and the traditional authorities to help develop the Aburi Botanical Gardens into a world class standard to promote tourism and create employment in the area.
Otoobour Gyan Kwasi, Aburihene conferred the title Oseadeeyo, which means a leader who honour his promise, on President Mahama for ensuring the construction of the Nsawam-Aburi and the Brekuso-Kitasi roads few weeks after a request by the chiefs in the area.
He expressed the appreciation of the chiefs and people of Aburi to the government for completing many of the road projects started in the area by the former governments and the construction of a modern park House which is promoting the export of fresh pineapples in the area.
He assured the President that much had been done for the resolution of the Akuapem Chieftaincy issue and what is left is for the heads of the various divisions of the Akuapem Traditional Council to meet with Akuapemhene, Nana Addo Dankwa for the final resolution of the problem.
He expressed the appreciation of the chiefs and people of Akuapem to the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for his role in getting the Akuapem Chieftaincy problem resolved.
Otoobour Gyan Kwasi appealed to President Mahama to honour his promise to ensure that the December elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
