The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia has called the bluff of Former Attorney General, Martin Amidu's accusation that the leadership of the party imposed President Mahama on the NDC as its leader.

In a statement, Martin Amidu frowned at Mr. Asiedu Nketsia’s statement released on behalf of the National Executive Committee a day after the demise of late President Mills, informing party members that President Mahama is the leader of the NDC according to article 26(1) of the party’s constitution.

Mr. Amidu says article 26(1) was used out of context because it only refers to a president who was elected.

But Johnson Asiedu Nketsia says Martin Amidu’s accusations are baseless because article 50(1) of the NDC’s constitution provides for the regulation of any situation that arises which has not been provided by the constitution.

“Maybe he is not reading the constitutional well; He is a lawyer and I am not a lawyer. Our constitution states clear who is the leader of the NDC and it is stated that when we are in power, the sitting President is the leader of NDC” Mr. Asiedu Nketia said.

According to Mr. Nketsia, Martin Amidu should not liken the declaration of President Mahama as leader of the party, to the Swedru declaration of late Professor Mills as leader of the NDC in 2000 because he, Martin Amidu was a key beneficiary of the Swedru declaration.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NDC has also confirmed to XYZ News that preparations are underway for the Party’s Congress which is scheduled for the 30th of this month in Tamale.
