Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Vitus Adaboo Azeem, wants President John Mahama to set up a Committee of Inquiry to commence investigations into projects undertaken by the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

Mr Azeem further wants the President to lead the fight against corruption by investigating the circumstances that led to the investing of a whopping GHC 15 million in the raising of guinea fowls in the country.

The Guinea Fowl Project by SADA obviously is not a new topic as many critics emerged to downplay the rationale behind government’s desire to invest in such venture.

The Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) was reported to have spent 15 million on its Asongtaba Guinea Fowl Growers Project in the Northern Region to generate revenue to enhance the growth of the economy.

The Authority also declared in its 2012 report that it had given off GHC 32 million to support its afforestation project in the north.

The joint move by SADA and the Asongtaba Group to produce guinea fowls in commercial quantity has since come under the spotlight, with some Members of Parliament calling for a thorough scrutiny to be done into project.

Vitus Azeem, speaking in an interview with Radio Gold on Friday, urged government to use the tax payer’s money to work effectively in order to reap benefits for the entire Ghanaian populace.

“When government uses our tax monies for projects, we should expect full delivery, efficient delivery, effective delivery; so that the majority of Ghanaians benefit from these investments and interventions,” he added.

He revealed that government has awarded a contract for the construction of 200 boreholes to be dug for irrigation purposes and also the cultivation of mangoes since October last year, yet the project has not see the light of the day.

Finding these revelations alarming, he appealed to President Mahama to exercise his executive authority and fish out the truth.

“Was there a procurement process that was gone through before they decided to pick the particular Asongtaba group to partner with government? The reafforestation project, was there a procurement process? How many contractors or how many NGOs are needed for this arrangement? The mango project, was there a procurement process? You need to look at all these things. How much time has been wasted? How much money has been wasted so far?”

“I think that the President should not wait for Parliament; this is an executive role. The President should set up a committee to investigate all these issues because if we allow the SADA to go down the drain like other past interventions in the North, we will have ourselves to blame,” he insisted.
