Bantama MP Bans Biometric For 2016 Polls

Kwabena Kokofu MPBantama MP Bans Biometric For 2016 Polls

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Kwabena Kokofu has stated categorically that biometric machines will not be allowed in his constituency in the 2016 general elections.

According to him, any attempt by the Electoral Commission (EC) to introduce Biometric Machines in his constituency during the next elections would be vehemently resisted by the NPP.

Explaining further, he said it is clear that some people voted in the 2012 polls without being verified, stressing that the Supreme Court saw noting wrong with it.

The fact that the Supreme Court affirmed the declaration of John Mahama as President shows that the biometric machines are not necessary for the next polls, according to him.

Mr Kokofu, speaking on Hello FM, said that the biometric machines were introduced to check double voting and over-voting but the function of the machines had been defeated.

“What happened at the Supreme Court clearly shows that the biometric machines are not useful for elections,” the NPP legislator stated, reiterating that biometric machines would not be allowed at Bantama in the next polls.

The Bantama MP, who was dissatisfied with the verdict of the Supreme Court, stated that Ghana doesn’t need any electoral reforms in the next election.

According to the NPP man, the Supreme Court’s verdict indicates that the 2012 election was without blemish.

“So I don’t see any need to reform a thing which is perfect.”

Hon. Kokofu showered praises on Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP flagbearer for the 2012 polls, for accepting the verdict of the Supreme Court, which helped to promote peace in Ghana.

For a long time some people, including NPP members, wrongly tagged Nana Akufo-Addo as a violent person without any evidence to prove that.

The Bantama MP said that Nana Akufo-Addo’s image was impugned for several years by NDC members, stating that Nana Akufo-Addo had proved his critics wrong.

Hon Kokofu debunked claims that the NPP was trying to make Nana Akufo-Addo a hero after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the election petition, stressing that the conduct of the NPP bigwig in promoting peace had been recognized by all.

He said influential personalities such as Chief Imam Sheikh Sharubutu, ex-UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, as well as civil societies, have been praising Nana Akufo-Addo for sustaining peace in Ghana.

He also urged critics of Nana Akufo-Addo to bow their heads in shame.
