'BE A GENERATIONAL THINKER'
..Pastor Mensa Otabil preaches
Today, the 1st of March, 2009, climaxed the week – long celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC).
The event took place at a well packed Ohene Djan Sports Stadium. The General Secretary of ICGC, Rev Edwin Obeng Donkor said in his opening remarks that God is concerned always about the longevity of the visions and dreams He gives to His people. Rev. Donkor noted that every God –given vision fulfills the will of God for generations and releases, heavenly blessings upon those who run with it. He gave a comprehensive account of events that led to the establishment of ICGC.
“A people without a good knowledge of their history and their beginnings will soon lose their appreciation for the great things God has done for them, as well as their true identity, and the reason to continue following after Godâ€.
He concluded by saying that the ‘mustard seed’ that was planted as ICGC has become a big tree with branches still spreading across the globe guiding many who have found faith and salvation in Christ, and above all, a sense of purpose and reasons to live for God.
The Founder and General Overseer, Rev. Dr Mensa Anamua Otabil in his sermon expressed his profound gratitude to God and to all who had contributed to the progress of ICGC thus far. He stated that we should not rest on our laurels but rather should strive to provide for our future generations – even unto the fourth generation. He reiterated the need for all Africans to think selflessly in order to move the nation forward. “be a generational thinker!..’rang through his whole sermon.
He proclaimed that the next 25 years held even greater things for the church and urged members not to forget that the God who made it all possible in the past 25 years will see His glory fulfilled in the next 25 years of the church.
The occasion was used to launch the Central Educational Trust which aims to provide top-quality state-of-the-art secondary school educational Centers in all 10 regions of Ghana for starters. The exercise will then be extended to cover all districts and eventually all communities in Ghana.
On hand to perform the launching was His Excellency the Okyehene, Amoatia Ofori Panin, resplendently clad in his traditional outfit with his entourage, The Okyehene declared his support for the vision borne by Dr Otabil and also gave hint of his own plans to establish a university of agricultural science in the Eastern Region. He hoped that God would enable him to replicate this university in all regions of the nation.
Dr Otabil thanked the Okyehene for his generous donation of 155 acres of land for the construction of a first-class quality secondary educational facility in the Eastern Region. Members of the church gave rousing testimonies of how their lives have been transformed by ICGC’s ministry. Daughters of Glorious Jesus treated the congregation to some of their hits whilst balloons were released in the air and members present rejoiced in celebration.
