Konadu can have her freedom – Mahama
President John Mahama has indicated that with or without former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the ruling National Democratic Congress would emerge victorious in the December polls.
Speaking for the first about the decision of Mrs Rawlings to join the newly formed National Democratic Party as its flag-bearer, he maintained the former First Vice Chairman of the NDC has the freedom of choice and can associate with any party of her choice.
“We have as one of the cardinal principals in our constitution, freedom of association and so people are free to belong to any party or associate with any party that they want and so I don't think that it's a big deal.”
President John Mahama was speaking to reporters at the Kotoka International Airport.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was endorsed by the National Democratic Party Saturday at the party’s national delegates’ congress in Kumasi.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings last week told Joy FM in an interview that he would support his wife in her quest to become Ghana’s first female president.
But President Mahama pointed out that the decision by the Former First Lady to join the NDP would not derail his campaign.
“I think that we must respect their human rights to associate with a new party if they want to.
"But I believe that our campaign is going well and that God is on my side and I believe that we're going to be victorious.”
