Asiedu Nketia Serves Notice To Ex-President Rawlings...
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has served notice to ex-President Jerry John Rawlings the leadership of the ruling party will meet to decide his fate following his appearance at the congress of the National Democratic Party (NDP) on Saturday.
According to him, if Mr. Rawlings’ actions are found to be in breach of the NDC’s constitution and if the implications of his utterances suggest he has left the party, “we will wish him well.”
He stated: “Nobody flouts NDC constitution and gets away with it.” Mr. Rawlings, who is the founder of the NDC, on Saturday, endorsed the candidature of his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings at the maiden congress of the breakaway party after she was unanimously endorsed as the flagbearer of the NDP.
He also pointed out that most of the parliamentary candidates of the NDC are going to lose their seats in the 2012 elections scheduled to take place on December 7.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Campaign Trail on Sunday, Mr. Nketia said: “We do not have any individual in the NDC who can be called permanent members. We are all subject to the party’s constitution so the same laws that govern our membership, govern everybody else. We will listen to the evidence and then the National Executive Committee will meet and then we will proceed from whatever decision the National Executive Committee will take.”
He, however, stated that the fortunes of the party will not be affected in the December general elections saying, “I do not think it will affect our party, beyond the general effect it will be having on all the other parties in the country. NDC’s train can never be stopped; it will get to its destination.”
