Kwadwo Twum Boafo who was reacting to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) criticism of the Heroes Fund said the NDC has the plight of party members who are victims of electoral violence at heart, and would do anything to make their lives worth living.

The opposition NPP have raised a 'red flag' on the Heroes Fund established by the NDC stating that, it is a means of legalizing and honoring people who engage in violent activities for the party.

The NPP also said the name of the fund is inappropriate for its objectives.

The NDC says the Heroes Fund, registered as a non-governmental organization, is to cater for the needs of victims injured and the families of those who lost their lives while working in the interest of the NDC.

Mr Kwadwo Twum Boafo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme stressed that the NDC would prefer to be in opposition for a peaceful Ghana than to be in power to govern over a chaotic country.

While rubbishing NPP’s claims, the Free Zones Board CEO observed that, the ruling party led by ‘asondwe hene’ President Mills will never allow what happen in Cote d’Ivoire or Kenya to happen in Ghana.

Mr. Twum Boafo noted that the Heroes Fund is not to motivate people to engage in violence as it is being alleged by the NPP, but to honor people who in the line of duty for the party meant their misfortunes.

He recounted one Gadiel Acquah who lost his left leg in a motor bike accident in the 2004 elections while working for President J.E.A. Mills.

According to him, people like Gadiel and others in similar situation are those considered as heroes because they devoted their lives to the party.

Mr. Twum Boafo counseled the NPP to appreciate the objective of the ‘Heroes Fund’ and emulate what NDC has done rather than criticizing it.
