1,800 ‘Azorka Boys’ storm Sunyani
Mohammed Ayuba, Commander-in-chief of the much-dreaded ‘Azorka Boys’ in Tamale is leading about 1,800 of his ‘troops’ to Sunyani for tomorrow’s national delegates congress of the ruling National Democratic Congress.According to Mr Ayuba, the move is to complement national security apparatus operations in Sunyani before, during and after the congress to ensure that nothing untoward happens.
But Kwesi Annin, security expert, and Head of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre, has described the move as a bad one, stressing that it does not speak well of the nation.
Speaking on Citi FM yesterday, Dr Annin insisted only the security agencies should be entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring security at the congress.
He added that the Azorka Boys should not be allowed anywhere near the grounds for the congress.
But, Mohammed Ayuba, Commander of the group, has assured all NDC supporters and sympathizers that nothing untoward would be allowed to disrupt the congress so far as the Azorka Boys are concerned.
He dismissed the perception that the Azorka Boys are hooligans, insisting that they are the most "peace loving" NDC youth group anybody can rely on for safety and protection.
Mohammed Ayuba warned all trouble makers to stay away from the congress ground and its environs because such characters will be dealt with mercilessly.
He made a passionate appeal to members of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and the Get Atta Mills Endorsed camps to be civil in their utterances at the congress ground.
Mohammed Ayuba gave the assurance that the Azorka Boys would rally behind any of the two candidates - President John Evans Atta Mills or Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings - who emerges as the flag bearer to ensure victory in the 2012 elections.
