Samia Calls For Nkrumaist Unity For 2012

CPP Samia & PNC AyarigaSamia Calls For Nkrumaist Unity For 2012 Posted on February 6, 2012 The call for unity among Nkrumaist parties in Ghana has been rejuvenated by the National Chairperson for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Yaaba Nkrumah.

Delivering a solidarity message on behalf of the CPP at the national delegates’ congress of the People’s National Convention (PNC) at the Sunyani Polytechnic over the weekend, Samia Nkrumah, the only daughter of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, challenged the new leadership of the PNC to show commitment towards unity talks with the CPP. “We, in the CPP, are waiting for you so that we commence sincere and genuine unity talks,” she said, calling on the PNC to come back to the negotiation table to ensure a unified Nkrumaist front for election 2012.

According to Samia Nkrumah, their bid to capture power by unseating the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December general elections will become futile if the two Nkrumaist political parties fail to unite.

“The CPP and the PNC share the ideology of Dr Kwame Nkrumah because we have a common destiny to transform Ghana,” she stated.

Samia Nkrumah, whose speech was greeted by intermittent cheers from the delegates said, “We don’t want to field candidates against each other in the constituencies.” She therefore called on her compatriots in the PNC to build together with the CPP “to serve Ghana our beloved country with honesty and exemplary leadership.”

Meanwhile, PNC passed a resolution to commence an alliance process with the CPP at the congress which was under the theme: “A United PNC for Victory in 2012.”

“In the light of the resurgence of our shared legacy in dignifying Ghanaians, mindful of the desires of our general leadership, as well as grassroots calls to speed-up the process of unity and/or alliance with CPP, and urged on by millions of our supporters world-wide, this congress hereby mandates the elected leadership of the party to resume the discussions towards this unity process with the CPP and to present a report of options by April 15, 2012.

“Congress further mandates NEC to assume the power to deliberate and ratify any options considered appropriate to the general interest of both parties,” the resolution said.
