We Harbored No Ill-Feeling Towards Mills - Minority Leader Tells Late Prez's Spirit
“My eternal regret, Madam Speaker and indeed the sincerest regret of the Minority caucus is the fact that we did not have the opportunity to have reconciled with the president after he accused us of insulting him on daily basis.
“We would have assured him that our critique were not meant to be insulting but I trust that we can reconcile in life-after-life.
“On my part and on the part of the Minority, we would want to assure the spirit of our beloved president that we did not harbor any ill-feeling against him.
“May history be kind to Prof John Evans Atta Mills; may mother earth lie softly on him and may the good Lord grant him peaceful eternal rest," those were the words of the Minority Leader, Hon Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, in a glowing tribute he paid to the late President John Evans Atta Mills on the floor of Parliament on Thursday.
The Minority Leader assured the spirit of the late president that the criticisms directed at him whilst he was alive were without malice.
Despite the glowing tribute, Mr Kyei Mensah-Bonsu stressed that with the untimely death of President Mills, the nation must help demystify the issue of the health of a sitting president.
He also disclosed that he wrote a private letter to President John Mills apologizing for any offence the minority may have committed, however, the President could not reply before his untimely death.
“Why was an entire nation caught so unprepared, such that the period leading to the death of the president is full of some missing links. The health status of the president should not have become such a taboo topic the way some managers made it to become. Such that even get well soon statement became almost treasonable," he stated.
