Drama At Ministers’ Vetting

The decision was taken by the Appointments Committee of Parliament after a marathon meeting.

Joy News’ Parliamentary correspondent Sammy Darko reported the decision to vet Mr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in public was taken by an overwhelming majority in the committee.

The public vetting puts an end to the raging debate over what procedure to use in approving the president’s nominee of a vice-president.

Majority Leader Cletus Avoka had kicked against the public vetting, arguing it will expose the office of Vice-president to a possible public ridicule.

He had opted for Amissah-Arthur to vetted in-camera.

But the Minority Leader Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu was quick with a rebuttal saying it is only the Appointments Committee of Parliament that has the power to determine what procedure to use in vetting the Vice-presidential nominee.

The Committee has decided to vet Amissah-Arthur in public on Monday at 9:00 am.

Sammy Darko said the vetting is expected to last for about three hours.

The House will then sit the same day to approve the nomination.
