Dr. Charles Wereko-BrobbyIt’s "nonsense" to give electricity to “beer drinkers” for Christmas

An energy expert Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby is shocked by the decision of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for reportedly opting to starve industries of electricity so that the general public can get uninterrupted power supply to celebrate Christmas.

As far as the former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA) is concerned, the priotirities of PURC is questionable because a serious country will provide energy for industries to produce wealth than sponsor the squandering of wealth on beer-drinking celebrations as Christmas approaches.

Ghana's unending energy woes is expected to worsen as 2015 approaches. This dreaded expectation will hit hard at holiday makers with Christmas just 13 days days.Crusades and carousing will be affected as churches and party-makers struggle to ensure power supply for their respective activities.

In recent times, energy-saving campaigns are waged by the PURC so that power can be conserved to allow better supply for the public to watch national events such as Black Stars playing in Brazil during the World Cup in June this year.

But according to Wereko-Brobby also known as Tarzan, this latest measure does not make sense.

“Have you heard such nonsense before? You say we should buy made in Ghana goods and you deprive the industry power; how do you expect them to produce” he charged on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

“This is arrant nonsense; that you’ll take the energy for the production sector to give to beer drinkers to celebrate Christmas; are we serious?” he exclaimed.

But the energy expert is even more shocked by the loud silence of industry players because it demonstrates that Ghanaians are an unserious people.

“To show you the kind of people we are, nobody is complaining,” he wondered in disbelief.

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby said the suggestion by the PURC to deny power to the industries which produce the wealth of Ghana is the most silliest he has ever heard.
