Supreme Court adjourns hearing of NDC’s joinder application
The Supreme Court has adjourned hearing of the NDC’s application to be joined as a respondent to the NPP’s petition against the Electoral Commission and the President.
The NPP is challenging the results declared by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan, which saw President John Mahama emerge victorious in the 2012 polls.
The NPP claims the polls were rigged for the president and subsequently petitioned the Supreme Court to invalidate the declaration.
The governing National Democratic Congress applied to the Court to be joined to the case as a respondent - an application the NPP is opposing.
Hearing of the joinder application started Thursday morning but the Court, presided over by Justice William Anaam Atuguba, adjourned hearing sine die.
There was heavy security presence at the premises, when the court sat to hear the NDC’s request to join the petition.
Meanwhile, the NPP is said to be planning to challenge the composition of the panel of judges sitting on the case.
