Bawumia Meets NPP Capos
The running mate of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, swung into full gear yesterday when he met the top brass of the party barely a week after his nomination and endorsement for the position.
He arrived at the party’s Asylum Down Headquarters in Accra to a thunderous applause and cheers from supporters and took time to fraternize with those present before proceeding to meet the national executives.
Present were NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, National Chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, Nana Addo’s Campaign Manager for the 2012 elections Boakye Agyarko and all national officers.
Aide to Dr Bawumia, Kwabena Boadu, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE said, “The renowned economist and banker praised the leadership of the party for successfully supervising the implementation of various reforms in the party since the 2008 elections, which he added had made the party stronger and put it in a better shape for the elections and governance when elected.”
“He also commended the party’s communication team for ensuring that the NDC was kept on the back foot on various policy issues and for exposing the incompetence that had characterized the NDC administration,” a statement issued after the meeting said.
Dr. Bawumia was said to have commended the prevailing unity in the party, saying that it was most commendable and significant since it gave an indication of a party willing and ready to capture power.
The running mate assured the party executives of his preparedness to work closely with the party structures and pledged to contribute his quota toward building a stronger, more vibrant and more capable party from the polling station to the national level, stressing, “I have no biases and I’m very willing to work with everybody in the party.”
He took the opportunity to thank the party’s flagbearer and the National Council for keeping faith with him and for overwhelmingly endorsing his nomination.
Jake Rubbishes NDC Lies
In a related development, the National Chairman of NPP, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey has parried what has proven to be a vicious lie being peddled by elements in the ruling NDC which suggested the NPP would abolish the new pay policy, Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).
Jake said in a statement that “it cannot be true that any individual or the NPP will think of abolishing such a noble initiative that seeks to restructure and streamline our salary scheme, for people to be paid for work done and dignify work for our country’s working population.”
This was in apparent response to claims in sections of the NDC rented press that the NPP intended to abolish the SSSS when voted to power.
“It is therefore not possible for anyone on the Akufo-Addo 2012 team to abolish the scheme, God willing when victory is secured at the 2012 polls”.
Instead, he stated, “the government of President J.A. Kufuor worked tirelessly on the policy framework and modalities from 2006 and had prepared for implementation by early 2009”.
He noted, “Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, our Running Mate for 2012, an astute economist of international repute, knows the benefits of the SSSS. He has never said that the SSSS will be abolished.”
For this reason, the National Chairman of the NPP stated, “We want to assure all Ghanaians and most especially workers who have been migrated and those who are yet to, that a new NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will work in the interest of not just the SSSS but also personal development and appraisal of our work force.”
