No Cash For Chieftaincy Ministry
The Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr. Henry Seidu Daannaa has called for action to be expedited on budgetary allocation to the ministry.
According to the Minister, budgetary allocation to his outfit was unreasonably delayed in 2013.
Dr. Seidu Daannaa was speaking at a meeting with the press on Tuesday in Accra under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications.
It was to enable the Chieftaincy Ministry and Traditional Affairs to inform the press about its development, challenges in 2013 and plans in 2014.
He stated that budgetary delay was one of the major challenges bedeviling the ministry and added that the government needed to address the issue effectively.
Dr. Seidu Daannaa also indicated that the infrastructure at the ministry was in a deplorable condition and called for renovation to be carried out.
Meanwhile, in spite of the delay, the Minister stated that his outfit managed to attain some feats in 2013.
According to him, his outfit was able to strengthen the chieftaincy research unit by increasing the number of personnel to 15.
“The unit is to oversee research works in chieftaincy disputes.”
He noted that the Ministry, as part of efforts to expand its communication base, established an interactive website.
Dr. Seidu Daannaa observed that “the ministry, in collaboration with other stakeholders, launched a project to tackle negative traditional practices.”
During the year under review, he said the ministry organized workshops for its staff, queenmothers and chiefs across the country “in order to inform them about the operations of the chieftaincy ministry and to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the ministry.”
