Dumsor: Ghana to buy power from Ivory Coast for Easter
This is the second time in 2015 Ghana is buying power from that country.
The first time was in February when GRIDCo bought about 80 megawatts of power to provide additional power to enable Ghanaians watch the Black Stars semifinal match during the African Cup of Nations Tournament.
Ghanaians are currently enduring massive load shedding exercise under a 3 year old power crisis.
Mr. Frank Otchere, Systems Control Manager of GRIDCo who revealed the new development in an interview with Accra based TV3 said “We are trying to get assistance from La Cote d’Ivoire for them to give us some supplementary power supply.”
He added that “I believe that as we go into the third quarter, we will still be shedding load but it could come down a bit because we are expecting that TICO would have come on line.
The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) had defended a recent increment in electricity tariff saying it was aimed at helping the ECG to manage the load shedding exercise.
