Dominion University College (DUC), affiliated to the University of Cape Coast (UCC), in partnership with government and other public universities in the country, are set to publish a directory of scholarships and financial assistance.

The publication, scheduled to be launched this month, will enable parents and students to have at their disposal a good compendium of information on a wide range of sources of scholarships and financial assistance for students.

Acting president of the DUC, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, who disclosed this at the maiden matriculation ceremony of the college, said the initiative was to assist parents to send their children or wards to universities and other tertiary institutions.

He said, “not all parents or guardians can afford to send their children or wards to universities. That is the reason why the DUC has become the first tertiary institutions to publish a directory of scholarships and financial assistance.”

He therefore noted that the directory formed part of the institution’s contribution to make the attainment of higher education less burdensome to parents and students.

He said the college, in addition to the modern infrastructure built to accommodate the students, was undertaking other infrastructural development and projects to provide its students with world-class facilities to enhance learning and research.

He therefore urged the newly admitted students to make the best use of this facility and preserve them for future generation of students.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah said DUC’s students would be supported and assisted by administrators and faculty members to achieve their aspirations during their stay at the college.

“You will continue to receive counseling and guidance from our experienced resource persons at the DUC’s counseling and psychological services centre of the college,” he said.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah also urged students to stay conscious of the expectations of the college and their parents who are making immense sacrifices by taking their studies seriously.

He admonished the students to stay away from cultism and social vices as the school would not tolerate any indecent lifestyle.

“You are fully aware that DUC is a Christian university. We therefore have zero tolerance policy on indecent life styles, use of illicit drugs, smoking, immorality, cultism, homosexuality and other associated forms of social vises.

Anyone found engaging or compelling others to engage in cultism or dealing in any act will be summarily expelled and thereafter handed over to the Ghana Police Service for possible persecution,” he noted.

Professor Domwini Dibire Kuupole, UCC Vice Chancellor, in a speech read on his behalf, tasked the Governing Council of DUC to uphold the virtues of UCC as a mentoring institution.

He said UCC stood for quality, efficiency and effectiveness in the pursuit of their goals; therefore DUC should abhor cheating, non compliance, and complacency in their pursuit of a world class tertiary institution.

He however promised UCC’s timely moderation and mentoring exercises, necessary for ensuring quality.

On behalf of DUC Chancellor, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Bishop James Saah also tasked the students to adhere to academic rules and regulations as they strive for excellence.

A total of 60 students took the matriculation oath to offer Bachelor degrees in Business Administration, Arts and Computer Science.

Thirty-eight students were admitted for levels 100, 200 and 300 to start a course in business administration.

The Bachelor of Arts programme which comprises; Theology, Pastoral Care and Missionary also admitted 17 students to levels 100 and 200 while the Bachelor of Science Computer Science with Management, admitted five students to level 100.
