Brazil Beats Ghana
The Black Stars of Ghana were yesterday beaten 1-0 by Brazil in London, UK, in an international friendly.
It was the seventh time Ghana was playing the Samba Boys, and the West Africans failed to break the Brazilian jinx, having lost six times and drawn only once.
Indeed, bad officiating turned what would have been an otherwise enthralling encounter, into a one-way traffic for the Brazilians, especially in the second half.
Ghana started strongly, dominating in every department of the game, as the thousands of Ghanaian fans that had jammed the Craven Cottage Stadium shouted their voices hoarse, in support of the Black Stars.
They took the game to the five-time World Champions, mounting one onslaught after another.
However, in the 33rd minute, Referee Mike Dean surprised all when he gave the marching off orders to Daniel Opare, dampening the spirit of the Ghanaians.
After a surging ran, the left-back, who was having a brilliant evening, lost his balance and crashed into Lucio, in defence for Brazil. The infringement attracted a second yellow card for the young defender.
Soccer fans booed Referee Dean and Lucio as Opare headed to the dressing room.
When the match resumed however, the Brazilians took control of the game, and it came as no surprise when they scored in the 44th minute.
After receiving a through pass, Brazilian striker Damiao fired a grounder past Adam Kwarasey, in post for Ghana.
In the second half, it was a one-way traffic, with the Brazilians attacking at will. New Brazilian sensation Neymar received a knock too many as the Ghanaians got more and more physical. The culprits included Samuel Inkoom, Lee Addy and Jonathan Mensah.
Ronaldinho justified why he was called back into the team when he compelled Goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey to pull up some hair-raising saves. And after 90 minutes of soccer action, the Black Stars were gallant losers, attracting a standing ovation from their fans.
