The Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi is expected to witness a massive demonstration on Tuesday, June 10 against Mahama administration for its non-performance and unbridled corruption that has beset the administration.

Dubbed, ‘Ya Ye Den Demonstration,’ the protest is being organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Parliamentary Caucus for the neglect of the region.

Also christened, ‘Black Tuesday,’ or ‘Kuntunkuni Da,’ the expected thousands of demonstrators that would hit the streets would drum home hardships inflicted on them by the NDC administration.

Government’s unfulfilled campaign promises, erratic supply of electricity and the high cost of living, which are collapsing businesses and making life unbearable for the people, are among the key factors that have called for a demonstration.

“It is obvious the Mahama-led NDC government is unable to fulfill the plethora of promises it made to Ghanaians, particularly for the Ashanti Region in the run-up to the 2012 elections.

“The ‘Better Ghana’ promised us has become a mirage and has rather plunged the people of the Ashanti Region into unprecedented hardships,” a statement jointly signed by Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional NPP scribe and Elizabeth Agyeman, Chairperson, Ashanti NPP Caucus, pointed out.

According to the statement, “Since this government, for reasons best known to it, has decided to turn deaf ears to the plea of the people, it has become necessary that we pour out our frustration through this demonstration.”

The Ashanti NPP charged the government to implement pragmatic policies and programmes to end the power crisis.
