A statement signed by the Information Minister, Mahama Ayariga, said the consensus was reached after a meeting at the Flagstaff house on Tuesday.

Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) are currently on strike following agitations over what they perceive as disparities in their salaries. They are clamouring for their delayed market premium and other allowances which they claim have delayed since last year.

Below is a copy of the statement signed by Hon Mahama Ayariga on the meeting.

PRESS RELEASE:

MEETING AT THE FLAGSTAFF HOUSE ON THE STRIKE ACTION DECLARED BY THE GHANA MEDICAL ASSOCIATION

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) held a meeting today the 12th of February, 2013 at the Flagstaff House under the auspices of the Chief of Staff to discuss the impasse between the GMA and the FWSC.

The Chief of Staff urged all parties to labour disputes to allow the appropriate institutions of state to resolve them.

At the meeting, the NLC handed their decision regarding an earlier complaint by the GMA against the FWSC on the same issues.

Following the deliberations by all the parties, the FWSC and executives of GMA agreed, before the NLC, to abide by the arbitration award of the NLC referenced NLC/32/20/2013/39E until otherwise varied.

The executives of the GMA and the FWSC subsequently paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Vice President K. B. Amissah-Arthur.
