Mahama Favoured
19 November 2012
THE ASHANTI Regional scribe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joseph Yammin says history favours President John Dramani Mahama to win the impending presidential elections, taking place on December 7.
He recounted that since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992 no sitting president of the land had contested an election and lost and he believed this year’s polls would not be an exception.
Yammin said Former Presidents Rawlings and Kufuor contested the 1996 and 2004 elections respectively as sitting presidents and the electorate gave them their mandate on those occasions to continue with their works.
The NDC secretary stated that history was bound to repeat itself in less than three weeks from now when the country goes to the polls to elect the next president, predicting, “President Mahama will win.”
Yammin, who was addressing the TEIN members of Kumasi Polytechnic, insisted that the NDC administration, in particular President Mahama, had done well in the few months he had been in office, so he deserved to be retained.
Despite sounding confident that the NDC would win the polls, he was quick to point out that the NDC’s intended victory would not come on a silver platter.
According to him, the party needed to intensify its campaign across the length and breadth of the country, so they could snatch the first round victory they were craving for.
In this regard, Yammin charged the TEIN members across the country to extend their campaign activities from their various campuses to the nook and cranny of the country so as to win more souls for the party.
“Go to all parts of the country and preach the good works of President Mahama and the NDC so that those who are still in the dark would see the light and join the NDC to continue with its better Ghana agenda for the country.”
Describing the free SHS promise of the NPP as a hoax intended to win cheap votes, Yammin noted that no government had developed education in the country more than the current and past NDC administrations.
He mentioned the NDC government’s desire to upgrade the polytechnic institutions to degree-awarding institutions among other interventions in the education sector.
Yammin said if Ghanaians wanted education to flourish, then the NDC which had a proven record of improving the educational system in the country, was their right choice.
He stated the NDC’s intentions of contributing to make the impending polls free, fair and peaceful, urging members in the Ashanti region to go and vote in their numbers on Election Day, saying, “Nobody can intimidate you.”
