The deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Wa Central, Alhaji Rashid Hassan Pelpuo has denied owning a fleet of Yutong buses and an international school located at Kasoa in the Central Region.
Responding to a question during a parliamentary debate organized by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) for parliamentary candidates in the Wa central constituency, Rashid Pelpuo denied owning such properties.
"If you like I will throw a challenge, we are all Muslims and we fear both Allah and the Qu'ran; before you talk about it at a political rally, you have to swear both and we see whether the person will not walk naked in this Wa town".
He further explained that neither does he have a "plot in Kasoa nor own a bus tyre. It is a lie that was concocted during our primaries but it couldn’t hold water and I won; I am surprised people still talk about it on political rallies and I expect that such lies should be discarded."
On what he would achieve for the constituents should he be given the nod for the third time, the deputy majority said, he will continue with the good policies of the NDC administration by expanding the infrastructure of educational institutions; given priority to girl child education with special priority on increasing the number of ladies in public universities in the country, connecting electricity from the national grid to the remaining communities that are without lights and above all expand the water systems in the constituency.
The parliamentary candidate for the People’s National Congress, Bernard Ambataayela Mornah stated that if given the nod he will make sure all children who are interested in going to school are given the opportunity.
"I will not go to parliament and sit down and supervise laws and policies that will not inure to the benefit of the constituency are passed," he added.
Issahaku Mumuni Tahiru, the parliamentary candidate of the NPP said if given the nod he will concentrate on the training of health staff for the constituency since the Wa Regional Hospital and other clinics are lacking staff in that regard.
He said he will organize classes free of charge for WASSCE candidate who failed in the sciences, English language and mathematics.
The parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party, James Sohimwininye on his part stated that his main focus will be about job creation as outlined in his party’s manifesto. He said there are several people out there in the constituency who are jobless and he will make sure that they are employed.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) parliamentary candidate, Suleman Issahaku stated that he will work to give the Wa airstrip a facelift in order to grow businesses in the constituency.
He said due to the bad road network in the region, many investors will like to come by air and if the airport is worked on, business in the constituency will boom.
