The general secretary of the NPP, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has said that the decision of President John Dramani Mahama to partake in the IEA Presidential debate after an earlier refusal shows, he is indecisive.

According to him, if president Mahama was decisive this u-turn would not have arisen because any foresighted leader cannot do what the NDC is doing to the Institute of Economic Affairs' debate.

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday rescinded its decision not to allow President Mahama to attend the IEA’s evening encounter and debate with presidential candidates.

Defending the decision of the NDC to join the debate, General Secretary of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia said it would have been absurd, had President Mahama refused to participate in the IEA's presidential debate.

He stressed that since assuming office, the president has adopted different ways of doing things such as the decision to engage regularly, various flagbearers on issues of national concern.

The president will begin his IEA encounter on October 9 with his vision for Ghanaians before the actual debate commences.

But, speaking on Asempa Fm’s Kukurantumi on Saturday, the NPP Seneral Secretary noted that president Mahama has been made a lame duck in the NDC and that the party always influences his thoughts.

“It is not surprising that the NDC is making a u-turn because they don’t know where they are going. They have lost touch with the people of Ghana so they will take everybody for granted. President Mahama himself is indecisive that is why he is eating back the words of NDC that they will never honour the platform of IEA. If president Mahama is claiming at that time, he wasn’t the leader of NDC why didn’t he make his views heard?”

Mr. Owusu afriyie said the NDC had been graced with shame for tagging IEA as pro-NPP.

He described the decision of the NDC party to rejoin the IEA debate as wrong, bad, disrespectful and insult to Ghanaians.
