70% Can’t Pay School Fees In Sunyani
THE SUNYANI Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Oppong Ababio, has disclosed that about 70 percent of residents in the Sunyani Municipality come to him for help to pay their wards’ school fees anytime school reopens.
He attributed the situation to the high level of unemployment in the municipality and said government was doing its best to create jobs in the area so as to end the trend.
The MCE was speaking on Joy Fm’s Super Morning Show with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in Sunyani. The morning show team is there to broadcast live the NDC congress.
According to him, although there are many problems related to water, electricity and roads, the major one is the inability of parents to pay their wards’ school fees.
He pointed out that Sunyani does not have a serious problem when it comes to electricity as compared to other regions, but said there is still room for improvement.
On the congress, the MCE said all is set to make it a success. He noted that the congress will end up uniting the NDC more than before.
Earlier in the week, the MCE told a Sunyani-based radio station that the Sunyani Municipal Assembly funded half of the money used for the renovation of the Coronation Park towards the NDC’s congress.
His statement has since received public bashings, with residents accusing him of using public funds for party politics.
Meanwhile, the founder of Real Democratic Patriots Party (RDPP), Raphael Cubagee, popularly called Shamo Quaye, has accused the MCE of using the assembly’s money to wed his wife.
He also alleged that the MCE has refused to probe the dealings of the past administration since he mentioned in his first sessional address at the assembly that he was not there to witch-hunt anybody because he did not want to face any probe after his exit.
Mr. Cubagee also accused the Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, of allegedly using state money to travel with women to the United States.
According to him, these are some of things that compelled him to leave the NDC to form the RDPP
