A 51-year old machine operator, John Apardo did the unthinkable by defiling his 16 year old step-daughter, impregnating her as a result.

The court remanded him into police custody for defilement and incest and to re-appear in court on August 24.

The mother of the victim, Agnes Gyemfua, was also remanded for conspiracy, aiding, and abetment of crime. Giving the facts of the case, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raymond Kofi Erzuah told a Bibiani Circuit court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Ankamah that, early this year, the accused (Apardo) had sexual intercourse with his step-daughter when the mother had travelled.

He said the accused warned his step-daughter not to disclose the act to anyone, but she became pregnant in June this year and her mother detected the pregnancy. DSP Erzuah said when the mother confronted her daughter, she confessed that her step-father (Apardo) was responsible for the pregnancy.

When the mother asked the husband (Apardo), he accepted responsibility for his step-daughter’s pregnancy and explained that he was drunk when he had sex with the step-daughter and pleaded for
forgiveness.

DSP Erzuah said Apardo presented two fouls and one schnapps bottle to enable the mother perform rituals for the abomination he had committed with the step-daughter.

Realising the gravity of the offence and embarrassment, the mother took her daughter to a clinic at Sefwi-Ahwianso Tanoso and aborted the pregnancy, DSP Erzuah added. After the abortion, the victim developed some health complications and for fear of the girl dying, the mother reported the case to the victim’s uncle, Mr. Prince Amoako Atta who became furious by the action of the accused prompting the mother to report the case to the police.

DSP Erzuah said the Police arrested of the man who performed the abortion at Sefwi-Ahwianso Tanoso and remanded him into police custody.
