NDC Reschedules Emergency Congress Date
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rescheduled its national delegates’ Congress to August 31.
The planned congress which was originally scheduled to take place on September 1 in Kumasi is to confirm President John Dramani Mahama as the NDC flagbearer for the upcoming elections.
The National Organizer of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan told Citi News the change of date was due to the Electoral Commission’s intention of displaying the 2012 voters register on September 1, 2012.
He said: “We learnt that the EC will do an exhibition of the voter’s register on September 1 which is the scheduled date for the congress. So we have decided to push the date for the congress to August 31 so that the delegates can go back to take part in the exhibition.”
Mr. Gyan stated further that the Oguaa Fetu Afahye is also scheduled to take place on September 1 “and we all know that the late President is from the region and he used to attend the celebrations and the current President has expressed the desire to join the people of Cape Coast to celebrate the festival.”
The NDC delegates are hence expected to report on August 30 for the congress to take place the following day.
