The Headquarters of the opposition party, New Patriotic Party, became the centre of attention yesterday, Monday. The Headquarters, which is situated at Asylum Down, was seized by some macho men believed to be the bodyguards of Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, an aspirant in the presidential primaries of the party.

Checks by the Ghanaian Palaver confirm that the macho men accompanied Alan Cash (as he is notoriously known for his ability to splurge money) as he picked his nomination forms from the Headquarters last week. Indeed, these macho men are on the payroll of Alan Cash and usually travel with him.

Speaking to some of the eye witnesses to the unannounced coup, the Ghanaian Palaver learnt that the Chairman of the Party, Paul Afoko, had directed these macho men to replace the long time serving security men at the Party Headquarters. When the security men turned up for work, they were denied access to the Headquarters and told to go home. They demanded to see Mr. Afoko and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, to seek clarification on what was going on and about their status as the Party's security men.

The macho men denied them access to the premises and refused to allow them to see Mr. Afoko and Mr. Agyepong. The long serving security men then threatened to bring macho men from Nima to deal with the Afoko/Alan Cash macho men. An argument ensued between the two factions, which led to fighting. The Party's security men eventually overcame Alan and Afoko's macho men, who fled the Headquarters.

The security men headed straight for Kwabena Agyepong's office. The former Press Secretary under the Kufuor regime, sensing danger bolted from his office with his laptop under his armpit. He was accompanied by his assistant Davis Opoku Ansah, popularly referred to as OPK, who hailed a taxi to assist his boss escape the wrath of the security men.

Shortly thereafter, the police arrived at the scene and calmed tensions down. The police asked all the staff at the Party Headquarters to return home and closed down the Headquarters. The 1st Vice Chairman, Hon. Freddie Blay, and the National Organiser, John Boadu, arrived at the Headquarters and took control of the situation. No arrests were made by the police.

This incident follows from a weekend of serious revelations and indictment against the Chairman and his General Secretary as being co-conspirators in a scheme to deny Nana Akufo-Addo the third opportunity to lead the Party as it's presidential candidate. Many Party members suspect that Mr. Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong are working with Alan Cash to bring chaos within the Party and cause disaffection for the so-called statesman. According to Party faithfuls, since the election of these two executives, there has been nothing but bad news after bad news.

Meanwhile, just around the corner, the ruling NDC government outdoored its ultra modern Headquarters estimated about $35 million.
