Johnson Asiedu-NketiaAsiedu Nketia warns NDC: ‘Let’s avert factions’

17 October 2013

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, otherwise known as General Mosquito, has downplayed reported rumpus within the governing party but admitted, like every human organization, all may not be well with the ruling party and government

Reacting last week to inquiries from the nation’s largest circulating newspaper, The Daily Graphic, about media reports suggesting dire dissatisfaction among the hierarchy of the ruling party, hardworking but uncompromising Mr. Nketia whiles acknowledging the emergence of possible differences among members of his party insisted; “We are very united,” and added that the situation hasn’t reached crisis proportion.

Whiles stressing that the more varied the opinions in the party, the quality of decision making, Mr. Nketia stated: “In every functioning mass organization, there are various shades of opinions which must be allowed to be expressed freely.”

He was, however, quick to warn that, regardless of the difference in opinion, it is important not to allow them to degenerate into the formation of cliques and factions, stressing that: “we manage opinions and dissenting views well so that they do not form cliques and factions within the party.”

The NDC founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings, has been reported lacing his boots to start firing the Mahama administration over what he described as attempts by some “latter-day converts” to move the NDC away from its mother group, the PNDC.

And only last weekend, Mr. Rawlings at a special congregation of the University of Development Studies to confer a honorary doctorate degree on him for his personal contribution to its founding, bemoaned President John Mahama’s inability to keep what he referred to as “the bad ones” and “crookish monsters” away from the Presidency.

“Both the good and the bad are around him. He’s unable to kick the bad ones away, and I guess it’s because he doesn’t know about some of them and their nature,” Rawlings thundered.

A senior member of the NDC and Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation at the Office of the President, Dr. Tony Aidoo, had earlier also publicly faulted the president’s administration of starving his outfit of the needed funds, alleging his outfit had been deliberately rendered redundant and dormant since the death of President John Atta Mills who created the office.

A popular broadcaster, Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, also known as Abeiku Santana who publicly declared his support and actively campaigned for President John Mahama and the NDC in the December 2012 election, recently took the regime he once stoutly defended to the cleaners, referring to some people around the president as ‘vampires and hypocrites’.

But Mr. Asiedu Nketia strongly believed the NDC is not about to implode maintaining: “We are very united,” but reminded members of the party of their collective responsibility to the party as enshrined in the constitution of the party.
