Another Ghanaian national has once again made history and made her country proud by rising to become a Chief Justice of Republic of Gambia.

details

Her ladyship Mrs. Justice Mabel Maame Agyemang is currently the acting Chief Justice of Gambia and will be sworn in tomorrow, Thursday, August 1, as the Chief Justice.

Justice Agyemang was called to the Bar in 1987 in Ghana and was transferred to Gambia and Swaziland for four years as a High Court Judge. In 2004, she started working with the Commonwealth Secretariat in Gambia as an expert Appeal Court Judge.

Justice Mabel Agyemang will replace Justice Joseph Wowo who was relieved of his post five weeks after being appointed as the Chief Justice.

Attributing her promotion and success to God, Justice Mabel Agyeman told Kwami Sefa-Kayi in an interview on Wednesday that the news came to her as a surprise.

“I will continue to be hardworking since that was probably one of the virtues on which I was promoted…I always try as much as possible to be hardworking and to do my work beyond expectation and I pray for God’s strength to discharge my duties diligently as the Chief Justice. I am a Ghanaian judge and was trained with a high sense of integrity. I am not going to be bias or conduct my work based on personalities…” she opined.

According to her, she was set to leave Gambia to another “commonwealth station when news came to me that I have been selected as the Chief Justice… it came as a surprise”.
