Kwabena Kwabena, Mark Mantey, other creative arts professionals endorse Akufo-Addo
05 November 2012
A group, calling itself Creative Arts for Change, has pledged its unflinching support for the Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo.
The group, made up of musicians, producers, actors, writers and other professionals in the creative arts industry declared their support for the opposition leader during a courtesy call on him at his Nima residence Monday.
The meeting was attended by several personalities from the creative industry including renowned hi-life musician, Kwabena Kwabena; movie producer and Public Relations Officer of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), Socrate Sarfo; and music producer, Mark Okraku Mantey.
Nana Addo, who revealed his love for music and the creative arts industry as a whole, said as Attorney General, he worked closely with the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to formulate ways to help musicians reap the fruits of their labour.
He added that, just as musicians live comfortably from their work elsewhere, Ghanaians should be able to do same and his party is committed to ensuring that.
Kwabena Kwabena, who is an avid supporter of Akufo-Addo, after the interaction told Joy News their meeting was aimed at pledging their support for the NPP Presidential candidate.
“The message is simple, four years ago people from the creative industry we went on a campaign trail (with Nana Akufo-Addo), we did so many concerts – Believe in Ghana – but this time around I think [things have] slightly changed so we didn’t do concerts but we had to make him feel that yes we are still behind him,” he said.
The Asor singer added that, “What we did last four years, none of us have regrets for… we are still rooting for him.”
He explained further that, “If every Ghanaian is listening, we all want improvement in our lives, we all want something great to happen to this nation and when you have a leader who has presented himself to actually make that happen, then it is so obvious nobody will say no to development.”
Kwabena Kwabena cited the NPP’s intention to implement free Senior High School education as one of the many justifiable reasons why they, as a group, are supporting Nana Akufo-Addo.
