'Zongo' Fund not for votes - Mustapha Hamid

The New Patriotic Party (NPP)has said that it will put to shame all doubting Thomases who think the party cannot execute the proposed Inner City Development Fund popularly referred to as the ‘Zongo’ fund when voted to power.

details

The fund will be aimed at addressing developmental challenges in deprived inner-cities across the country especially in the Zongos.

According to the NPP, the entire project will cost $100 million which will be spread across a given time span in an annual budgetary allocation.

But the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is convinced the proposed Zongo fund is mere rhetoric just to woo people in the deprived Muslim communities for votes ahead of the December general elections.

However, Mustapha Hamid, spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party flagbearer said the Zongo fund is not to lure the Zongo community to vote for the NPP.

He was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.

According to Hamid, the proposed Zongo fund is part of the NPP’s manifesto hence Ghanaians can hold them accountable if it fails to fulfill the promise.

He bemoaned the deplorable living conditions of the about 240 Zongo communities across the country and vowed an Akufo-Addo government will make their lives worth living.

Nana Akufo-Addo’s spokesperson added that the NPP as a proactive party has planned adequately for the smooth implementation of the project and will ensure the fund come into fruition when voted back to power in December.

He indicated given the NPP's track record on the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), School Feeding Programme and National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP),in the erstwhile Kufuor government, it is more than capable to deliver on its free Senior High School (SHS) and Zongo fund promises.

Mustapha Hamid urged Ghanaians to vote out the Mills-led government that has lost touch with their concerns and vote massively for the NPP in the December polls.
