Michael Teye Nyaunu told Joy News the Movement is indispensable in the fortunes of the party, explaining that efforts by leading members of the party in government to shun the movement will spell doom for the NDC in December.

He was throwing more light on comments by former President Jerry Rawlings on the occasion of 30th Anniversary of the 31st December Women’s Movement which was marked with a public lecture addressed by the ex-president and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

Mr Rawlings in his lecture said the NDC is worse than the NPP in sabotaging the activities of the Movement.

He said the party is fighting two enemies, a 'traitor' within and a 'perceived enemy' without, one of which he said must go.

Michael Teye Nyanu told Evans Mensah the ex-president was spot-on with his remarks.

He congratulated the 31st December Women's Movement for a “marvelous work” done, insisting that cutting them off from mainstream politics of the NDC marks the eventual downfall of the party.

He said it is the women in the Movement who in previous elections campaigned for the party at various levels and in the markets, saying “the NDC is running on wobbly legs and will fall at anytime.”

Asked who the traitors in the NDC were, Mr Nyaunu was unequivocal, pointing at the current leaders of the party as the traitors President Rawlings was referring to.

He dismissed assertions that his comments were borne out of bitterness, saying any such assertion will only come from a “naïve” and “parochial” mind.

A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo re-echoed that politics is a game of numbers and the NDC will need the 31st December Women's Movement to make strides in the December elections.
