NDC Lawyers Represent “NPP” Plaintiffs

Drama unfolded at an Accra Fast Track High Court on Friday, 26th September, 2014, when the plaintiffs who are seeking to place an injunction on the New Patriotic Party’s October 18 congress were represented by “hardcore fanatics” of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Lawyer David Annan and Lawyer Eric Tieku.

This development stunned members of the NPP and the general public present at the Fast Track High Court, who wondered why members of the NPP had employed lawyers belonging to the NDC to push for a postponement of the NPP presidential primary whose main purpose is to elect its presidential candidate for the 2016 election.

According to eyewitnesses in court, throughout the entire sitting, Lawyer David Annan, who was seated directly behind his fellow NDC colleague and lead counsel, Eric Tieku, was seen guiding and instructing him on the arguments to be made on behalf of the plaintiffs, Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Oppong Kyekyeku.

Sources at the court also indicated that proceedings were interrupted on several occasions as David Annan passed on handwritten notes on pieces of paper to aid Eric Tieku, an occurrence which was referred to the attention of the sitting judge, Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh, by counsel for the NPP, Godfred Dame.

It will be recalled that Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Oppong Kyekyeku sent an application requesting an injunction of the October 18 primary to the court, two clear days, after Mr. Alan Kyerematen at his campaign launch, through Nana Ohene Ntow and Dr. Richard Anane, gave explicit warnings to the NPP to extend the date of the congress, for which failure to do so will result in a law suit against the party. There is therefore speculation that the Alan Kyerematen camp might be behind this suit.

During cross examination, the membership of the NPP of Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Oppong Kyekyeku was thrown into serious doubt by Godfred Dame.

Justice Habib Logoh will on Friday, 3rd October, 2014, rule on the application filed by the plaintiffs.
