The two, Mr Kofi Asumani, the Director of Elections and Asante Kissi, Director of Elections in charge of Logistics, have since been charged with bribery and corruption.

They are currently on police enquiry bail with one surety to report to the police Tuesday morning.

Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tettey who confirmed the arrest to Joy News mentioned the political party involved as the New Vision Party (NVP).

He said the two were allegedly offered GH1,600 by the party but could not tell for what purpose.

The New Vision Party led by Prophet Daniel Nkansah, was disqualified from contesting the 2012 elections by the Electoral Commission because it failed to meet the Commission’s requirements.

However, DSP Freeman Tettey indicated that the two were arrested while in the process of refunding the money after the party was not cleared on Thursday to participate in the December polls.

They were arrested together with the General Secretary of the party Mr Daniel Nkansah Jnr and a taxi driver, one Sarpong, who was conveying the money.

The police are currently pursuing the founder and leader of the party, Prophet Daniel Nkansah, whom they suspect might have played a key role in the bribery allegation.

“At the moment we are actually on the tail of Prophet Nkansah, he has a question to answer; he needs to assist the police to continue investigations into the matter. This is a serious matter that must be dealt with thoroughly," DSP Freeman Tetteh told Joy News.

The suspects would be arraigned when the police complete their investigations, Mr Tettey said.

The arrest comes barely one and half months to the December 7 general elections, already characterized by accusations and counter accusations.
