I deserve respect, courtesy – Rawlings tells NDC leadership
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has written to the leadership of National Democratic Congress, to officially register disgust at the treatment meted to him and his office.
The former President’s Office in a response to an invitation he received on Wednesday to attend the party’s manifesto launch in Ho on Thursday, stated Mr. Rawlings was not privy to the contents of the manifesto which he is expected to speak about.
The supposed invitation was also wrongly dated, according to Mr. Rawlings' Office.
"The letter inviting His Excellency was prepared in haste, it seems and was dated September 2, 2012 and the event was erroneously scheduled for September 4," stated the reply, from ex-President Rawlings' Office signed by Captain H. Afeku-Amenyo (Retired) and dated 3rd October, 2012.
The former President also expressed abhorrence at the “deliberate use of the former President’s name to advertise such events when he has either received no invitation or confirmed his attendance at such events.”
“Our Office is reachable through several means and it is incumbent on party officials who are in charge of such events to crosscheck His Excellency’s receipt and acceptance of such invitations before the public is misled into believing that he is attending such events,” the letter stated.
