AFCON Budget: Morning Show Hosts Ask “Useless” Questions And Talk Rubbish – Ayariga
He went angry on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, banged the phone on Adom FM’s journalist and now the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga is on the fling to spell provocative words to any person who questions him on Ghana’s budget to the just ended Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].
According to Mahama Ayariga, he does not owe any further explanations to Ghanaians on the AFCON budget because he does not answer to the public, rather to his superiors.
Speaking on Adom FM, day after he appeared in Parliament to disclose the AFCON budget, the Sports Minister accused all radio morning show hosts of asking pathetic questions on the budget.
“Morning show hosts ask useless questions on this budget. Journalists have not been fair to the Black Stars,” he furiously said.
Mahama Ayariga further described the budget as the lowest AFCON budget of all time in the history of Ghana and pledged to defend the Black Stars at all times when journalists are against them.
“I will stand and defend the team [Black Stars] anytime. Instead of them [journalists] to talk about the achievements made by the boys, they rather talk rubbish,” he claimed.
Ghanaians have been demanding a detailed account of how much the country spent on the Black Stars and the technical team before and during the tournament.
The never-ending calls notwithstanding, Mahama Ayariga refused to disclose the budget allocation for the AFCON with the explanation that the budget report will be submitted to the appropriate authorities.
Mahama Ayariga appeared before Parliament on Wednesday and bare out of the amount, $932,740 and $3,242,580.00 were approved for boarding and lodging, air-fair, per diem, friendly matches, and other expenses of the team for its training camp in Seville, Spain.
