JJ’s June 4 Hijacked
JJ’s June 4 Hijacked
The office of ex-President Rawlings has issued a stern warning to a faceless group in the NDC with ‘mischievous intentions’ attempting to hijack the impending June 4 celebration.
The group is said to be going round the country mobilizing support for itself in the guise of organizing the June 4 and May 15 celebrations that had ex-President Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu as the main characters.
Ex-President Rawlings says he has no hand in the activities of the faceless group.
According to a statement issued from his office, “A group of persons with mischievous intentions is going round the country misinforming unsuspecting admirers and followers of the ideals of President Rawlings that it is organizing events marking the May 15 revolt as well as the June 4 uprising”.
The statement said it came to the office as a surprise, to hear that some people had gone ahead to initiate the celebration.
“President Rawlings cannot be averse to people wishing to commemorate these events as they impacted significantly and positively on the political and economic fortunes of Ghana and changed the tide of Ghanaian political history. It is however unacceptable for unscrupulous persons to go round the country announcing they are organizing events to mark May 15 and June 4 with the full support of President Rawlings, when that is false,” it noted.
“President Rawlings has not given his blessing to such arrangements,” the statement emphasized.
He believes it is a deliberate ploy to distort the impact that this year’s celebration would have on the image of the ruling government.
Fingers are pointing at elements in the Mills camp, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.
According to sources, the Mills camp is scared of the potential outburst of ex-President Mills at this year’s celebrations, hence the deliberate ploy to distort this year’s celebration.
The June 4 celebration is the prized platform for ex-President Rawlings to voice his contentions about goings-on in the country in what has popularly been referred to as ‘Boom’.
The office explained that original arrangements had already been made: “On May 15, 2012, the Office would launch activities marking the 30thanniversary of the 31st December Women’s Movement, and by June 1, 2012, the June 4 commemorative service would commence at the Central Mosque in Accra.”
Ex-President Rawlings, on June 2, 2012, will hold a June 4 anniversary durbar in Aflao in the Volta Region.
The climax of the celebration will be on June 4, 2012 where wreaths will be laid in memory of all those who died during the bloody June 4 uprising.
DAILY GUIDE gathers that the ex-President, who has been the Mills government’s biggest critic, will use a new political movement to clearly denounce the Mills government at this year’s June 4 celebration.
According to the suspended Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, the former First Family is of the conviction that the movement will reinstall the original principles of the NDC. The family believes the current crop of NDC officials have corrupted these principles.
