NDC destroyed my life – Maame Dokono

Actress Grace Omaboe popularly known as Maame DokonoNDC destroyed my life – Maame Dokono

Ace Actress Grace Omaboe popularly known as Maame Dokono says she will never work with NDC even if heavens came down or she was given all the riches in the world.

Grace Omaboe who recently won a case of negligence brought against her orphanage for the sodomy of a six month old baby says, the whole incident was a fabrication by the NDC orchestrated by none other than elements within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Somebody had vowed that Maame Dokono would go to prison . They were all fabricated and that is why I say I will never ever go back to the NDC and work with Nana Konadu”, she said.

Maame Dokono whose association with the former first lady spans almost two decades said she will also not work with the 31st December Women’s Movement again.

Maame Dokono was sharing her pain with Stephen Anti when she appeared on Multi TV’s pm:EXPRESS personality Friday.

Grace Omaboe who had become a household name from acting, TV and radio hostess and business woman, saw her world built away from politics; come tumbling down when news broke that a six month old baby had been sodomized at her “peace and love orphanage”.

The ensuing legal battle destroyed a career that had taken years to build – leaving her with a host of diseases; hypertension, and diabetics among others. She left Ghana for a six month thorough medical checkup when the judge absolved her of any complicity in the matter.

The multi skilled 63 year old failed politician says she would gladly go back into politics when given the chance but will not join Nana Konadu’s bandwagon because of the pain she has suffered at the hands of the NDC.

She revealed she would still love to contest in her hometown Nyafuman in the Birim North District to cause the change that she had so much desired when she first contested.

“I hate to see people suffer, I hate to see people cheated, I hate to see politicians deliver promises and fail to fulfill,” she stated.

She stated that her passion to help the vulnerable and poor was her motivation to enter politics and though she failed on two attempts, her spirit is not broken.

Peace and Love Orphanage has now been converted into a school with a population of 250 children still ran by Maame Dokono.

Grace Omaboe burst onto the acting stage when she first featured in the well acclaimed Television drama series, “Keteke” on GTV.

Playing the role of a Kenkey seller at a Railway Station with David Dontoh as “Ghana man”, she developed into a versatile playwright from there.

At a point when the issues portrayed in “Keteke” outgrew the boundaries of the Railway Station, Maame Dokono moved on to form the “Obra” Theatre group whose “Obra” Series on GTV did tremendously well, focusing on a wider aspect of societal issues than Keteke, which it replaced.

She has six children- one is a Medical Doctor in the U.S and one works with the World Bank.

Although her career and politics took a toll on her, she said, she made sure her children were taken good care of, and looking back, Maame Dokono said, she is proud of her children.

For those who thought her career was over, Maame Dokono told Stephen Anti, she is coming back soon with her own studio and production.

She plans to start a new Obra “Soap Opera” series, to be produced and directed by herself. She also nurtures the ambition of going back to her advocacy work for women and children.
