Elizabeth Asantewaa, the young bouquet-girl who survived the bomb attempt targeted at Ghana’s first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah at Kulungugu in the Northern region has disclosed that the late President cried by her bedside when he visited her after the incident.

“I was at the hospital and in real pain when I was told that the President was there to visit me.

“I couldn’t believe it but it was true; I saw him by my bedside and in our conversation, he started crying and I saw tears in his eyes,” she told Kafui Dey on Morning Starr Thursday.

Asantewaa, then a school girl, was bombed whilst presenting a bouquet of flowers to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on August 11,1962.

She lost a leg to the bombing.

According to her, Dr Nkrumah promised to help her through life but could not deliver on all his promises to her due to his overthrow 1966.

“He promised to help me since I was only a victim of an attack on him. He sponsored my treatment in London but after his demise, I haven’t really received any help from subsequent governments”.
