Vote against those who feel “entitled” - Nduom
02 April 2015
The 2012 flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has asked Ghanaians to take a cue from Nigerians by voting for an “incorruptible leader” in the 2016 general elections.
Commending the most populous West African nation for a peaceful election over the weekend, the businessman-cum-politician said voting against incumbent Goodluck Jonathan is a clear indication that “the will of the people has prevailed.”
Ex-military leader General (rtd) Muhammadu Buhari on the ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) stretched Jonathan by some two million votes to become the first opposition leader to unseat a sitting president.
Dr Nduom in a congratulatory message said: “As we congratulate the winner of the presidential elections in Nigeria, Major General (rtd) Muhammadu Buhari, we must also commend the efforts of all the other candidates.
“We salute the fortitude and forbearance of Nigerians. The citizens of Africa's most populous nation and biggest economy have done well by making the elections mostly peaceful. Most importantly, the will of the people has prevailed. The results have been accepted.”
According to him, there are a lot of lessons for Ghanaians to pick ahead of Ghana’s next major elections.
“The lessons? No seat is reserved for anyone. If you perform well, you can hope to be returned to office; if you perform poorly, you do not deserve the people's confidence. Our people are beginning to understand the fact that "you get what you vote for".
“Next year, Ghanaians will have an opportunity to choose a president. Let us hope that they will choose a competent, incorruptible leader over those who feel "entitled".”
