NDC Loses 3 More
29 April 2014
Three more deaths have been recorded in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the weekend tragedy which claimed the lives of two of its top executives, Hajia Adisa Sali and Agnes Tia on the Kintampo-Techiman highway.
In another road accident which occurred in the Volta Region the same day (last Saturday) as the one stated above, three other members of the party lost their lives.
The three, whose names are yet to be made public, were said to have met their untimely death at Tanyigbe in the Ho Central constituency around 5:00 pm while they were sitting in the bucket of a KIA pickup.
A report carried by Accra-based Radio XY Z said they were also returning from a funeral of one of their branch organisers near Ho when the accident occurred.
It claimed the vehicle stopped midway as it was climbing a hill and that in the driver’s attempt to restart the engine for more traction the passengers in the bucket allegedly fell off and were run over by the same vehicle.
Some of the deceased were said to have been dismembered with three other survivors remaining in critical condition at the Trafalgar Hospital.
The bodies of the three deceased were said to have been deposited at the same facility.
NDC Mourns
Meanwhile, leadership of the NDC is grieving with shock over the tragic death in succession of two of their women organizers at the weekend.
The two, Hajia Adisa Sali and Agnes Tia, were the party’s Deputy Women’s Organisers in the Greater Accra and the Volta regions respectively.
They were returning from the funeral of a sister of the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, together with their colleague Greater Accra Women’s Organiser, Vivian Ankrah – who is still in critical condition – when the incident happened.
A statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by Communications Director James Asante stated, “The NDC wishes to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, especially their spouses and children on this sad event which has thrown the party into a state of mourning across the country and the Diaspora.”
Pain
It continued, “Their death has left a big hole in the leadership of the party, especially at the women and youth levels. Indeed, the party has lost potential national organizers whose depth of political knowledge and institutional memories would have been of immense benefit to the party.”
That, according to the statement, was because “the two women had worked tirelessly and selflessly in the organization and mobilization of the party at the grassroots.”
The two were said to have sacrificed and toiled for the development of the party over the years.
Apart from that, they were described as “a disciplined duo who executed their roles with tact, zeal, abiding commitment and loyalty, both as facilitators and organisers.”
For that reason, it noted, “The NDC would forever remember them as dedicated comrades who contributed immensely to the growth and development of party and multiparty democracy in the country as a whole.”
The governing party has also extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Aina Ibrahim Quaigraine and all Ghanaians who lost their lives through lorry accidents at the weekend.
“The party wishes to use this occasion to once more appeal to all drivers to be mindful on the road by adhering strictly to road safety regulations in order to safeguard the lives of passengers,” it stated, while wishing the surviving victims of the accidents speedy recovery.
