Prez Mahama To Set Up Committee For Construction Of 200 Senior High Schools
21 December 2012
President John Dramani Mahama on Friday indicated that a committee to oversee the construction of 200 new Senior High Schools would be inaugurated soon after his inauguration on January 7, 2013.
President Mahama said the committee would ensure that the new Community Senior High Schools would be constructed within the first four-year term of his administration.
The President gave this hint when he feted 300 brilliant and disciplined students selected from the ten regions of the country.
Children from the Dzowulu special school in Accra and Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region also participated in the programme.
President Mahama promised to expand the computerization programme throughout the country to ensure that students become conversant with the Information and Communication Technology irrespective of where their schools were located.
He said 10 new Colleges of Education would also be constructed to train more professional teachers to take up responsibilities in all the deprived schools of the country.
President Mahama said apart from enhancing the salaries and emoluments of teachers, residential quarters would be attached to all new schools to provide comfortable accommodation for teachers to be able to put up their best in the schools.
The President advised the students to remain focused on their learning to achieve their future goals by remaining disciplined in the fields of interest.
President Mahama urged them to stay away from negative peer influence that had the potential of ruining their lives.
“Do not let peer pressure divert you from the path that you have chosen to follow,” President Mahama advised the students.
The students from across the ten regions took turns to ask the President questions bordering on education, health, sports, science and technology.
