Over 500 nurses and midwives abandon Ridge Hospital
15 April 2015
About 557 nurses and midwives at the Ridge hospital in Accra have laid down their tools in protest against the non-payment of their March salaries by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
The salaries of the nurses and midwives are reported to have been delayed due to some anomalies in their electronic payment verification process.
The nurses have since threatened not to come back to work until the anomalies are rectified.
Explaining the situation to Citi News, the head of administration at the Ridge hospital Emmanuel Taadi said “the controller was supposed to send the payroll to us for us to validate that indeed it was our workers but when the controller sent the system online it malfunctioned and we were not able to down load the PV for the Nurses.”
He however said that they have contacted the Controller and Accountant General and pleaded with the nurses to come to work while the issue is being resolved.
