Nana Addo, who set the target of the demonstration as an ice-breaker, said the opposition party will always lead the cry for better governance.

Speaking to the thousand of demonstrators who took part in the NPP’s “Wɔngbo" street procession, Nana Addo said the problem of Ghanaians is his problem too.

Before the protest march commenced, the three-time NPP Presidential Candidate, in an address to the mammoth crowd of demonstrators, slammed the Mahama-led NDC government for being indifferrent to the plight of Ghanaians.

"Mahama says he won’t listen to anybody – we hear, but Ghanaians will listen...demonstrate peacefully...Nobody should be violent," Nana Addo warned.

The NPP Flagbearer then urged Ghanaians to unite in an effort to ensure that President Mahama improves his performance.

The “Wɔngbo" demonstration was used by the NPP to highlight the frustrations of Ghanaians to President John Mahama about the current energy crisis.

Ghana is currently shedding between 440 and 650 Megawatts of power during off-peak and peak periods as a result of a production deficit. The production shortfall has come about due to poor hydrology of the three main hydro-electric power stations – Akosombo, Bui and Kpong – as well as lack of gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline in Nigeria to supply gas to various thermal plants in the country.

Consequently, both domestic and commercial consumers are bearing the brunt of the crisis, which Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor recently promised will end by December 2015.
